First-Time 'Jie Mei'

Half the company went for wedding celebrations today. Half of the half was one-tenth of the Sisters squad.

First time as jie-mei, naturally I was simply following the flow. So last weekend during the bridal showers I simply sat back and let the rest decide on the torture techniques to be implemented today. Then today I formed mainly the backdrop of the wedding, though I got ang-baos for doing so! Heh.

L&G's wedding torture tactics revealed:

1) Consumption of insects (deep fried grasshoppers) dipped in sour, sweet, bitter and spicy sauces (i.e. vinegar, condensed milk, bitterguord juice, tabasco sauce).

2) Donning of disposable undies on the outside, then sing and perform in synchrony the Teapot nursery rhyme. The undies were specially decorated by the Jie-meis with 'I love my butt' type love-messages.

3) Plucking of eye-brows. We were kind enough to get them to pluck only 3 strands each.

4) Passing dates from mouth to mouth. You should've seen the brothers' faces when they heard this (and also when they were actually passing the dates!)

The brothers today were really sporting. They earnestly ate the grasshoppers (albeit with disgusted looks on their faces), did and re-did (on request) the Teapot rhyme in their superman outfits, and plucked exactly 3 strands of eyebrow each. We also cleverly placed the gate remote control in the bridal car, so they almost couldn't let themselves in because they never guessed that'd have happened!

The final stage was solely for the groom. We made him come up with a *ahem* Chinese poem on the spot, using four items from the bride's room - a pencil, a teddy bear, a book and ? (I can't remember!) Clever groom with his limited Chinese modified a mandarin hymn on the spot and actually came up with something quite lyrical and incorporating the four items! And we all simply cheered!

Followed the couple through all the tea ceremonies and all, then ended up in Salvation Army Bishan for the solemnisation ceremony. The sermon was a really good reminder of what Christian marriages are truly about and how these should look like in terms of the roles husband and wife should each be playing. Songs were led by our friends. The hall was filled with the rest of their friends and family. Afterwards when the couple paid tribute to their families, they both cried; it really was very touching.

Though I've only known the couple for half a year, have been really touched by each of them and am just really happy to see them move onto a new stage in their lives :)

Forgot to share with you all something from the couple:
"We do wonder, after a fight or quarrel, if we're the right one for each other; we do struggle to deal with each other's flaws and sin. Yet through it all, as we work through each trial with God's help, our love matures and our commitment to each other deepens."

Comments:
WOW! It sounds really really interesting!! So fun! I wanna play!!! Shutchie, let me be your jie mei next time?!! I can come up with more sinister ideas!

Hee. Must have been a real eye-opener for you ya?

Anyway, at least you know your dress won't fall cos double-sided tape is STRONG! And CHEAP! Hahaha!

Think Shutch is prudent enough not to invite you to the actual wedding just so can avoid the 'sinister ideas'. Maybe just invite you to the tea ceremony whereby you definitely cannot do anything but watch hah!

That's akin to tying you but nicer.

I could topple all the tea cups! Oh, but wait a minute.. that's the klutz's job. =)

Thought you wanna be a brother so you can eat grasshoppers? :P

But honestly wedding dresses look so heavy and cumblesome I think I really will be quite a klutz in one!

Yeah I'm sure...it will be fun to watch all that klutzy actions though...

Hee Klutzy bride... could make a movie out of it! =)
