Jumbo and Bridges

Was supposed to install some programme on computers at SJI today, but during the last hour, the assignment was cancelled. So Shutch, YP and myself ended up Far East's Ya Kun for a drink. I tell ya, the coffee is rather yucky. I dun understand how they can stay in business and why people still order their coffee. Is it a lifestyle thingy? I have no aversion to coffee, but this was one of the worst I have drunk thus far. The one which the Indian man sells at the roti prata place near my house is yummy. I have come to the conclusion that Indian coffee is better. Note: Stirring the coffee and creating bubbly foam in it does not make a yucky coffee any better. Why? Because it is STILL the same coffee! Duh!

Well, we had around 4 hours to kill... so we decided to either catch a movie or shop around. And since YP jiejie (mama?!!) felt like shopping, we did just that. Went to Wisma and Taka to window-shop. I wish Project Shop Bros was cheaper. I could buy a whole rack of their clothes! Anyway, we were in search of tape. Told Shutch outrightly that she should use masking tape... why bother going to the extent to pay so much for tape. Hee. And in the end, she ended up with normal double-sided tape... 1/10 the price of what she would have paid for 'special' tape (which is also probably made from double-sided tape and marketed differently to jack up the price). I wanna see her in her dress!!!

And then since we were early, we decided to take a walk to Riverside Point. Our initial route was to walk to City Hall then cut to Clarke Quay... but as we were walking, we suddenly thought of a short cut... through Istana Park. However, I dunno what possessed me to u-turn and walk back towards Centrepoint. Shutch even asked if I was going the right way, and I even had the guts to so confidently ask her to trust me!!! Hahaha! Thenafter a few more steps, I realised that I was going the wrong direction! Hahaha! So we had to turn back! So much for trusting me! Hee. But at least I dun go "You are here" and point at the bubble. Heh. So yeah, we made our way there... rather fast. So we entertained ourselves in Medi-ya... not with the supposedly yummy ice-cream (one Sunday I'm REALLY gonna try it! Heh), but by looking at all the yummlicious Japanese food, raw and cooked. It feels good to have Shutch and YP agree with me on how yummy the food is, rather than go "ew"... Hahah! And it's cool cos Japanese food is somewhat an acquired taste? Especially the raw food. And we were getting hungry and tired... so we decided to leave Medi-ya and go wait at Jumbo.

Why Jumbo? Cos we wanted to eat seafood. And cos we couldn't go eat seafood when G & G were around, cos they would freak out? Heh. And cos I din get to eat seafood in Phuket. Heh. So thank you, company! =) Oh and you know what? Today is a Thursday. A WEEKDAY. But Jumbo was FULL!! The manager even had the cheek to tell us to eat and leave at 730-745. Hmmm. I was actually rather tempted to leave. But thought it quite ma-fan... especially when we were quite tired liao. Oh well, not the manager's fault lah... I put that too harshly. Think it's cos Jumbo has a really good location. Right spot in the middle of a tourist attraction in the centre of town. Yeps. Anyway, that aside... we ordered our food. What did we order?? We ordered seafood fried rice, fried dou miao with garlic, deep fried mini cuttlefish, herbal drunken prawns, man tou and chilli crab. (Cannot order black pepper crab cos YP says you'll get black particles stuck in your teeth during the 'aftermath'. Heh.)

Here's the yummy crab.

Yum yum yum!!! I'm gonna get a craving from looking at it in future sia! Like the banana waffle in the previous previous post!

And to digest... we walked to the side of the river opposite church and sat on the railing for a while. All the time forming a fort around Shutch in case she was up to one of her clutsy moves again. =) And I wonder why the shareholders laugh at me when I tell them I reflect at a particular spot opposite the river near church. Why why why?? Bababoon cannot reflect meh? "~hng~" (YP, 2005) And somehow Papa Ken started the conversation about peeing in the open during winter and observing it, which led Shutch to mention that she pee-d in the open in the snow before. Which got me thinking about how ya butt will be frozen, or even get stuck to the ground, like how ya fingers get stuck to ice-cubes. Ouch! Oh, and I have to try to freeze clothes while hanging them in the open. Remind me. =) Oh, and something about abusing people you dun like in the army with out-of-the-world methods. EW. Ouch! So we sat there talking and watching the cool kites in the open area. Ah-beng kites they are... with all the blue, green and red lights. Only thing that is un-beng is the techno music. Heh. Papa Ken go buy leh... then can play. =)

Due to Papa Ken's useless fact, we walked to the bridge to observe the sloping walls. This is to prevent vagabonds from sleeping there. And that many places are engineered to prevent people from spending the night in public as well... such as narrow benches at bus-stops and "arm-rests" on public benches to prevent people from lying down... I even learnt a new word, "labyrinth". =) Anyway, we took a nice, slow walk to Robertson Quay. Nice nice place. Here's the colourful bridge.

What is Papa Ken doing?!!

And we walked on... to another cool bridge. And made ourselves comfortable sitting on the bar, watching the river and listening to music from the nearby lounge. Just like we were on a roller-coaster. Hee. Especially when the boat passes by and creates currents. Akin to when I'm kayaking in the open sea.

I just had to do it. Too tempting!!

We sat there for the longest time ever. But the night was nice... with a cool breeze from time to time. I think it's an awesome feeling to just spend time with close friends, even if we are not doing anything important/substantial, or talking about anything in particular. It made me very contented. And I thank God for providing me with such friends who are willing to spend time with each other, and not think it a waste of time. Oh, but we did wave to the bumboats passing below. And some were friendly enough to wave back, though they are Asians, and are usually more reserved, according to the stereoptye... which is rather true in real life. Heh. I think Papa Ken felt quite embarassed. Hahah!

We walked back to Liang Court and crossed yet another bridge (I forget its name)... but I do remember a "Pulau Saigon bridge". How THAT came about, I have no idea! Today is the day of bridges! Heh. It was getting late and everyone was tired, so we decided to head home. But before that, we needed the toilette. So we went searching for one at Riverside point. So ulu-ated, that place! Heh. I splashed water at Shutch, then ran away. And as she was trying to chase me, she slipped. Yes, again. Hee. Lucky she din fall! Who is gonna get that bubble wrap for her ah?!! It'll keep her warm in New York too! So practical!! =)

As we were driving to Pengy's house in CCK, she commented on Papa Ken's driving, something about how he ALWAYS brakes late. Heh. And then came the ultimate... he retorted with "Mama Pengy" always nags! Hahaha! That was HILARIOUS!! Mama Pengy asked him to stop the car immediately, demanded that he pull out his shares, etc. We just cracked up! Hee. Apparently it's to get back at her for calling him "gu-niang" every night. But then hor, I think it's true leh... it seems like he's getting more in touch with his feminine side as he hangs out with the company! Hee. A transformation? EW. Hahaha!

Anyway, I had a great day/night tonite. Thank you peeps. And I think the blog is a great idea! We could update on it when we are at different parts of the world! And at least the record stays... not like emails which are more ma-fan! I dunno how the Dec holidays will be without you people! Luckily for me (and unluckily for her), I have Shutch in NY and on the way home... and for the 7 hrs transit in Seoul! *grin* We have to meet on 31st and celebrate New Year's Eve ya?!!

Comments:
What feminine side? I've got 'raging male hormones' ok. The word gu-niang does not exist in my dictionary....

You should've seen your own face when the manager was talking to you. So BLACK! My dear, remember "In your anger do not sin"? TSK TSK.

And it appears with my intuition, maps with 'you are here' labels only serve to distort my perspective. Next time I better think twice when you tell me to trust your directions over mine. Heh.

oops. i hope i din sin. i show colour only lah... though i shouldn't either. too comfortable with you all liao. is that a good thing or a bad thing? hmmm...

i think i should watch the colour i portray. Too much black for now. And black isn't even my favourite colour! "True colours...."

Maybe I'm just too tired liao lah... so easily worked up. Sorry sorry...

Hehe, yes girl, know you're tired. Try to get some rest ya? Though I know not how... Giz, if you're reading this, maybe you can do something about her rest time in Chicago =)

Wow sounds like I'm a little kid going to winter camp. Play time and rest time all planned for me. Hee. Sounds good actually.

Ok, I will work on my temper. Shall be content and rejoice. =)

what can i say? you ARE a little kid... :P

sure miss your meatloaf...and oh of course, you too heh :p
